Summary/Abstract: The achievements of contemporary researches on the brain urge for a revision of the traditional, rather platonistic than biblical, Christian view of men. In this context consciousness proves to be a keyword. The present study deals with the questions: What is dependent on the central nervous system and what exercises influence on it? Is it rightful to assume a correlation of mutual exchange between these two processes or to conclude that they represent a structural unity? A positive answer to this latter question would put a different perspective on fundamental issues of humanity such as men’s relationship with history, the indivisibility of his existence, his relationship to faith, and the practice of meditation that leads to self-fulfilment and happiness.
