Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the Slovak prose work Sedem dní do pohrebu (Seven Days until the Funeral) by Slovak literary critic, dramaturge and publicist Ján Rozner. The work describes seven days in 1972 following the death of Rozner’s wife, Zora Jesenská, a famous Slovak translator and important figure in Slovak cultural and literary life. The main themes of the novel are the personal situation of a husband who must cope with the death of his beloved wife, memories of the Second World War and post-war events, and the period called “Normalization”, when Ján Rozner and Zora Jesenská were not allowed to publish and participate in cultural life.
