Summary/Abstract: This essay discusses Ján Rozner‘s factual novel Sedem dní do pohrebu (Seven days to the funeral, 2009), particularly from the point of view of genre, time as well as of a critical response. Rozner‘s novel concentrates on a short period between his wife‘s death and her funeral. The narrator is, thanks to this time, allowed to rethink his former life and to fi nd moments which have been yet invisible. This intermediate time gives him also a chance to discover a sort of secular eternity. One of the crucial moments of this novel is not only a narration on personal losses but also a witness about a time of the early 1970s, i. e. about a period when roles are changing. Former winners turn into losers; an era of new winners begins.
