Summary/Abstract: The early work by Vladimír Holan was infl uenced by Apollinaire’s Pásmo (Zone). Holan’s poem Mědirytina (Copperplate) belongs among the poems that show evidence of his reception of Apollinaire’s poetic technique that, in the 20’s, is characterized principally by confessionlike verses, use of self-addressing as a means for auto-communication, and simultaneousness and polythematic structure. Holan followed primarily the existential aspect of Pásmo, which is what distinguishes his poem particularly from Nezval’s poems influenced by Pásmo where the aspect is rather neglected, yet still present. Among all the texts that incorporate a motif of metamorphosis, Holan’s poem differs from the others in depiction of the metamorphosis. The lyric subject in Mědirytina refuses extensity of the motif and the principle of the new. Although the poetic technique used in Pásmo contributed to the genesis of Holan’s work, he dealt with its influence as early as in his first collection of poems.
