Historic Gardens of Lithuanian Manor Residencies: Works of Landscape Architecture and Objects of Historic Preservation

Summary/Abstract: Residencies of former manors and their historic gardens are the most prominent part of material heritage of the culture of Lithuanian manors. Historic gardens of manor residencies are the works of landscape architecture created using mainly instable vegetal materials, at the same time being the subjects of historic preservation and the increasing interest of society. These properties of historic gardens raise issues of considerable precaution and responsibility in their management and restoration. considering that, the article is aimed at formulating the basic principles of preservation and renewal of historic gardens of manor residencies, based on the analysis of their significance, preservation regulations, experience and problems.
