Summary/Abstract: The artistic heritage of George Papazov in Bulgaria is not large. Works of the artist can be found in the National Art Gallery, the National Gallery for Foreign Art, Sofia Art Gallery, the art gallery in his hometown Yambol, the Gallery Dimitar Dobrovich in Sliven, Atelier – collection of Svetlin Roussev, some private collectors. The painting presented in this article has not been exhibited in any exhibitions in Bulgaria and has not been published. It is owned by a Bulgarian collector who bought it some years ago abroad and owns a certificate of authenticity. The work is entitled The Blue Fog; it is dated around 1926 and is an oil painting, dimensions 110x95 cm and is signed by the artist in the lower right corner. It is a composition of three pairs of swans that as if though ‘float’ in the fog of abstract forms. The work was created approximately two years after George Papazov settled in Paris. One of the most important events for him in 1926 and for his career as a painter was his participation in the collective exhibition of the Société Anonyme, Inc. in the International Exhibition of Modern Art at the Brooklyn Museum. This followed the special invitation by Marcel Duchamp. During the restoration in Bulgaria of the painting a surprising discovery was made that the painting was actually two-sided. On the back of the painting there is another composition which was not signed or dated but whose author undoubtedly was George Papazov.
