Summary/Abstract: Dramaturgy was of key importance for the theater during the time of Socialism. But what kind of drama and why was it chosen? How did the ideological filter of party-state power regulated the writing of plays and defined the principles according to which specific dramaturgy was selected? How did that filter regulate and assigned the repertoire of the theaters? These are the questions that have led the author in her analysis in the study of the importance of the drama during the times of Socialism and of its main functions in society in general. The text traces how the ideological canons of Socialism, based of Socialist Realism initiated the type of drama – its structure, personages, conflicts and themes. The author also points out how the party structures through the theatrical structures regulated its functioning.
