Summary/Abstract: Freedom is one of the universal values. Only a developed personality can be free. Maintenance of freedom requires knowledge, experience, responsibility and courage. Freedom is won, not given. Freedom can be abused in the name of freedom. No one’s absolute freedom is acceptable. In exercising the freedom in public sphere one should make difference between the freedom of thinking and expression from the freedom of action and behaviour. Media freedoms show how much a society is free and open. Defence and guarantees of freedom of information must not be challenged. Media in service of any power beyond their own betray their mission, position and role in society and state and endanger their own freedom. To serve to power of government means to lose freedom or abuse it. Manipulation, propaganda, adulation, servility in journalism are against the freedom of media.
