Summary/Abstract: On 13 February 2013 the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights held a public hearing on the “Katyń complaint”, which was set against the background of the mass-killing of almost twenty-two thousand Polish citizens in 1940 on order of the highest Soviet authorities. The case was referred to the Grand Chamber at the request of the applicants. Prior to the public hearing before the Grand Chamber, the parties to the case were sent questions to answer. Below we publish the legal observations submitted on behalf of the applicants. They were recapitulated at the hearing (each party was allotted 30 minutes). These legal observations were prepared by Professor Ireneusz C. Kamiński, the principal lawyer for the applicants.
