Negative Spillover from Work Life to Home Life: a Study of Ambulatory Surgery Centers

Summary/Abstract: Background, purpose: The lack of existing information concerning employee work life at ambulatory surgery centers in relation to spillover generated interest. The purpose of the following study was to understand negative spillover from work life to home life. Material and method: Questionnaires were administered to 40 staff members at two ambulatory surgery centers to measure negative spillover in relation to the number of hours worked per week, income, and job satisfaction. Results, conclusion: Results showed there were no statistically significant relationships existing among the studied variables and negative spillover. Several possible factors may have contributed to these results such as a small sample size and limited variance in responses. The study had a small sample size (N= 24) because of the small number of staff employed, and there was low variability among responses. The results raise questions about general trends in ambulatory surgery centers. Discussion of results is grounded in the context of previous research relating negative spillover to various aspects of the work environment. Tyrimo tikslas. Mažai žinoma apie ambulatorinių chirurgijos centrų darbuotojų gyvenimą darbe ir tai, kaip jis susijęs su gyvenimu namuose. Šio tyrimo tikslas – išanalizuoti neigiamą darbo–namų sąveikos reiškinį, t. y. įvairių neigiamų gyvenimo darbe aspektų įtaką gyvenimui namuose. Metodai. Tyrime dalyvavo 40 dviejų ambulatorinių chirurgijos centrų darbuotojų. Darbe analizuojamos darbo–namų sąveikos, darbo valandų per savaitę, pajamų ir pasitenkinimo darbu sąsajos. Rezultatai, išvados. Tyrimo rezultatai parodė, kad darbo valandos, gaunamos pajamos ir pasitenkinimas darbu nėra susiję su neigiama darbo–namų sąveika. Tokį rezultatą galėjo lemti per maža tiriamųjų imtis ir nedidelė atsakymų variantų sklaida. Straipsnyje aptariami bendrieji ambulatorinių chirurgijos centrų veiklos dėsningumai, darbo– namų sąveika ir įvairių darbo aplinkos veiksnių sąsajos.
