Summary/Abstract: This article is intended to pay tribute to one of the novels that most influence has had on the speech related to Latin American Independence, Las lanzas coloradas by Arturo Uslar Pietri. However, as an homage, it possess the singularity to unite with a criticism of its own discourse to the construction of which it has contributed, in other words the historiographical discourse centered on the recovery/creation of the Latin American identity marks. The analysis of the time processing in Las lanzas coloradas proves that the Venezuelan author’s novel withstands through its own literary qualities, independently of the ideological speech to which it has been integrated.
