Summary/Abstract: This article defines the technology-based educational communication which takes place in a technical university, and analyses several methods and tools of this type of communication, which are offered by the Moodle platform, used in the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. It also describes the benefits and limitations of this type of communication. Our research is mainly qualitative and is based on two focus-groups, which have an exploratory role and on a series of observations regarding the activity on the platform. The aim of our research is to identify the students’ perceptions regarding the effectiveness of the information technology-based educational communication in their faculty. Although the new IT communication tools represent alternative and effective ways of improving the lectures, the diversity of facilities which they offer can lead to an exaggerated enthusiasm regarding their use in education. We should not ignore the advantages that they bring, but, at the same, we shouldn’t use them randomly.
