Summary/Abstract: This paper highlights the importance of incorporating automatic speech recognition technologies in e-learning process for Romanian language, from two points of view. First, we bring into focus the necessity of using speech recognition technologies especially for persons with physical disabilities, such as difficulties of manual dexterity. The other point of view is that of using successfully speech recognition in mobile technologies aiming education. This direction is named m-learning (mobile learning) and its goal is to let the learner the possibility to assimilate learning from any location and any time, with portable devices (smart-phones, tablets, PDAs), because of their flexibility. The two aspects presented in the paper complement each other. They can be used both separately and together. Therefore, the authoress emphasizes the role of speech recognition in higher education.
