The Novelty of Social Art History in Lithuania

Summary/Abstract: The review examines the monograph "Daile ir valstybe: Dailes gyvenimas Lietuvos Respublikoje: 1918-1940" (Kaunas, 2003) by art historian Giedre Jankevičiūte. The book is analysed as an example of a promissing approach to the study of production and consumption of art, dealing with art organisations, the problem of "official style", art museums, art education and relationships between art and church.
