Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to several hitherto unpublished letters from the Austrian writers Josef POPPER-LYNKEUS, Alexander RODA RODA and Felix SALTEN to the Czech writer and critic Josef Svatopluk MACHAR. The letters, which are kept in the archive of the Museum of Czech Literature (Památník národního písemnictví) in Prague, clearly demonstrate the close cultural relationship between Austrian and Czech literature even after the breakdown of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and in spite of the negative image of Vienna, which MACHAR in his essays and poems regularly presented to his Czech readership in Bohemia.
