Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the psychological process of conversion as expressed in Gala Galaction’s novel Mahmud’s slippers. As in a handbook of spiritual theology, the author follows the inner awakening of the main character, starting with the unforgivable sin of killing. The path to a new spiritual attitude starts with a profound darkness, as the mystic writings underline. Savu the shoe-maker experiences a number of psychological dispositions that lead him to search for Teacher. Strange enough, he found the wisdom he was looking for, in people of other religion than his. The paper attempt to reveal the subtle psychological movement that turns a simple shoe-maker into a mystic personage which, at the same time, expresses by this transformation the fusion between three important religions in a single global Wisdom. This kind of experience, of the understanding at the level of the profound psychological substratum, can be the solid base for the construction of a real interculturality.
