Contemporary Musical Practices with the Participation of Bulgarian Traditional Instruments

Summary/Abstract: The text of the article is a part of a more global research, which deals with the following issues: the functional aspects of Bulgarian traditional instruments in contemporary musical practices; the instrument as technical means for producing music; the mutual influence between modern (classical) and traditional instruments and its socio-cultural determination. The attention is focused mainly on some functional expressions of the instruments in the performance of professional folk orchestras, at weddings and in professional schools for instrumentalists. The article dwells on the development of professional folk instrumentalism, emphasizing the influence of "wedding" formations on the teaching in specialized high and higher musical schools.
