Summary/Abstract: In this article the post-graduate, technical translator training programme (specialising in legal and economic texts) offered by Kodolányi János University College, Hungary, is introduced. The components of the programme are presented and subsequently discussed. The course, “Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Translation”, taught by the author of this article, is presented in more detail: the rationale for the content and the teaching methodology is offered for the consideration of the reader. It is argued that in a learner-centred class the ‘great questions’ of translation theory can be elicited from the students and that the search for answers to these questions can constitute the content of the course.
