Summary/Abstract: Various processes caused by the disintegration of the state and the elite which adapted to the new political conditions were characteristic for the Serbian lands at the end of 14th century. These phenomena and processes have been illustrated in the narratives and diplomatic sources alike, among them epistolary sources. A group of the latter is comprised of letters from Dubrovnik, which are specific for both their contents and form. Analysis of the inscriptions - diplomatic formulas which indicate the change in addressee’s social and political position, has shown that it corresponds with political and social changes verified by other sources. Discontinuity of communication between Dubrovnik and Serbian nobility and changes in addressing, reflect the actual situation. Brankovići lost their former significance, so in the inscriptions form as late as 1405. they were addressed at highest level. The rise of Lazarevići has been evident since 1398. The analysis of two letters, sent on the same they and on the same subject, to Lazarevići and Nikola Zojić, identified important social changes. Therefore, the correspondance itself and its motives represent an indicator of changes in the hinterland, which were of vital economic and political importance to Dubrovnik.
