Summary/Abstract: The study deals with the image of the continuity and antiquity of a diocese in funeral sermons over bishops in the Early Modern Ages. Funeral sermons over bishops include passages in which the author describes the history of the diocese, points out the predecessors of the deceased as well as his successors, reminds the faithful of the eternal intercession which the deceased bishop gives to his diocese etc. Special attention is given to the funeral sermon over the Bishop of Olomouc, Cardinal Wolfgang Hannibal Schrattenbach († 1738).
