Summary/Abstract: The subject of the present article is the diary by Leonas Gineitis (1920–2004) – a famous literary historian, thinker and writer. Its main themes are revealed here as follows: formation of the worldview, self-education, nature and experiences of the completeness of being, the literary ambitions, and family. Although not being the only form of his personal records, the diary constitutes a very important testimony by Gineitis, significantly facilitating our understanding the genesis of his ideas and principles of his personal upbringing. Instead of newsreel-like narrative, concentrating upon events of the external life, the diary predominantly constitutes a form of introspection, abounding with ample speculations and reflections. Evident attempts at shaping the texts of this diary into literary forms allow us to define it as a literary-philosophical work.
