The lexis of works by Donelaitis and its editing

Summary/Abstract: In the Paper, the peculiarities of lexis of Donelaitis and its editing in the works of the poet are described. The main features of lexis of Donelaitis are simplicity and imagery. It includes abundant picturesque verbs, nouns, epithets and other artistic means. The vocabulary of Donelaitis also includes words usable in the modern appelative language, such as dialectisms, archaisms, barbarisms. Most radical chantes of lexis of Donelaitis had been made by Ròza the first publisher of his creative heritage. He unreasonably altered personal names, edited lines, excluded Germanisms. In other publications of works of the poet, the lexis of Donelaitis was changed to a less extent. Sometimes words of original were replaced for other ones in publication for wide range of readers under „pedagogical“ consideration in order to miginate the poet‘s language.
