Upper Silesia Residents’ prosperity and the sources of its funding

Summary/Abstract: Is the rest of Poland financing welfare of the inhabitants of Upper Silesia? Comparing responses of the persons surveyed to the socio-economic statistics seems to be accurate. Thus we are able to disprove any myths present in society at least since Gierek. The problem turned out to be the geographical area of Upper Silesia – because it does not constitute a single administrative unit, economic and social data are imperfect, but those that are, show that stereotypes and history have a significant influence on the responses because data from the Central Statistical Office do not give a great basis for an affirmative answer to the research question. It also appears that the respondents are strongly polarized in their responses – what is particularly evident when taking into account the division of respondents because of the place of residence or age.
