Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this paper is to demonstrate how psychological longitudinal research data can be analysed using panel data methods. The determinants of dynamics of PTSD symptoms are used as an example. The approach used here allows for treating data from three measures as unity and incorporating them into one model, instead of estimating three independent parameter sets separately. It enables formal verification of all risk factors – size of experienced trauma, material loss, long-term material consequences as well as temperamental traits derrived from Jan Strelau’s Regulative TemperamentTheory impact on posttraumatic symptoms’ intensity. As a result of comparing parametres’ estimates in one model it is possible to verify the hypothesis of different influence of trauma intensity on PTSD symptoms for different family members. As expected, it has been shown that considerable positive influence of trauma intensity on PTSD symptoms’ intensity, both for trauma as a general feature as well as its components – life and health threat, size of material loss and long-term negative material consequences. With regard to Strelau’s Regulative Theory temperamental traits it has been shown that high level of perseverance and emotional reactivity intensify PTSD symptoms’ intensity whereas endurance, briskness and sensory sensitivity manifest the opposite relationship.
