Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyze the competitiveness of Serbian economy in the period of the global economic crisis. On the basis of the analysis of the competitive position of Serbia and some of the key business aspects, this paper intends to determine the main weaknesses, as well as the growth potential of Serbian economy in the upcoming period. Despite a visible progress from the 1990s, Serbia significantly lags behind in the process of improving its business competitiveness. The research results point out that the majority of the World Bank and the World Economic Forum indicators show that Serbia has an inopportune position in terms of competitiveness, which significantly reduces its chances of an increased foreign capital inflow and export growth – the key prerequisites for strengthening economic activity. Beginning with the analysis conducted, this paper presents proposals to the creators of Serbian economic policy as to where and in what segments of the economy to look for resources that would properly develop our economy and improve its competitiveness.
