The Industry of Lithuania: Past and Present

Summary/Abstract: A. Vosiliūtė reviewed Petras Stankevičius’ monograph, published in 2009, “Transformations of Lithuanian Economy and their Social-Economic Consequences”. The monograph analyses the development of industry during different stages in the development of Lithuania’s economy as well as reveals reasons for the changes in industry’s development and their impact on the country’s economic processes, society’s social structure, people’s life and work conditions. The reviewer accentuated that the research convincingly proves that the solution of the essential social problems is closely connected to the expansion of industry and the increase of its effectiveness. In other words, the level of the industry development influences the country’s economic power, its citizens’ employment and social well-being.
