Between Protection and Control: Polish Social Protection System and the Chances of Inclusion

Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the functioning of the Polish social protection system in the perspective of its social control mechanisms. It proposes a critical analysis of legislative provisions which regulate the activity of social protection institutions and outlines those aspects which, in their present form, seem to have the major impact on shaping behaviors of beneficiaries. A special attention is paid to the aim of the assistance provided within the system, as it stems from the defining legislation, the principles under which such assistance is granted and the level of respective allowances.
