Summary/Abstract: As a foundation of security, economic security involves access to resources and basic infrastructure needed to ensure an acceptable level of prosperity and power of both the state and citizens. It consists of industrial security, land security (food, etc..), security of services, transport security (land, air, sea, river, pipeline, cable, etc..), telecommunication security, commercial security, financial security, energetic security, commodity security, infrastructure security. Regional development in the EU is a prerequisite for increasing security, and in this respect the Community policies, through the financial mechanisms support this effort. The EU policy of regional development and cohesion contribute to achieving the goal of an united and secure Europe. Starting from the premises of the National Security Strategy of Romania in 2007, according to which a strong economy, performant and competitive, macro-stable, dynamic in terms of growth and adaptable to the requirements of integration and globalization, is an important pillar of national security, ensuring conditions for an economic and social security, interest of the majority population to support democratic institutions and the basis for initiatives to promote prosperity and security, structural funds thus make their presence felt in the national strategic documents.
