Summary/Abstract: Travelling around an ex-centric universe playing with such concepts as « frontier », « transgression », « antithesis », the main character of Alejo Carpentier’s novel Le Partage des eaux, a musician who sets forth to Latin America in search for the cultural roots of modern man, passes through the initiatic proofs of love, death and resurrection. The artist becomes the subject of an entire range of revelations of an archetypal “space-time”, of a reality of wonders and of the magical essence of music. His anamorphotic existence, altered and distorted by modernity, turns back into what is its own essence by means of the “curved mirror” of the extraordinary South-American experience.
