Summary/Abstract: This paper investigates one of the many themes that South-American literature inherited from European culture. It refers to the mythological figure of the Sybil (Homer, Hesiod, Virgil etc.), as it was adapted by Christian folklore. During the eighteenth century, the Spanish images of the Sibyl, used by Renaissance artists as a means of evangelical propaganda, were copied by the painters of San Telmo in Peru.
