Summary/Abstract: This paper provides a policy insight to the importance of a system of good governance for sustainable development in Macedonia. The analysis was largely based on the extensive theoretical and empirical research undertaken during the process of elaboration of National Strategy for SD in Macedonia. The main policy challenges elaborated in the paper include: limited SD public awareness at all levels of governance and society; lack of integral SD policy-making approach; low level of policy coherence between the sectors’ policies relevant to SD; further harmonisation of the national legislation with the EU acquis and strengthening of the public administration capacity for SD. The need for prompt and proper addressing to the identified problems is stressed out as necessary to achieve progress towards SD. In that respect, the system of good governance for SD is promoted as an efficient tool for accomplishment of sustainable interaction and management of those policy challenges.
