Summary/Abstract: The most common name from the surviving Illyrian onomastic heritage is the Baton. It can be found in the literary sources and epigraphic finds. It is indicative that it is specific to the Illyrian ethno-cultural complex(es) and is located in its center and its peripheries. Thus the name Baton is evidenced four times in Daesitiates,, and in Dtionesa, Dardanians, even in the hinterland of the Pannonian provinces. It is particularly interesting that this name Illyrians carried with them throughout the Roman world. Greek onomastics witnessed the existence of similar name. This suggests that the Illyrian and Greek form of the name had a common, ancient Indo-European origin. On the basis of this hypothesis, and comparing with other Indo-European forms similar grounds, one could come up to the meaning of this name. During the etymological research of Baton name, there is also a potential disclosure of meaning of the name Bosna.
