Summary/Abstract: The study contributes further data to the social history of Pécs in the second half of the 19th century through school matriculae. After describing the society of the town, first year students are analysed in four timescales: 1851/52, 1871/72, 1891/92 and 1910/11. The students' place of birth, religion, and the occupation of the father and are noted and examined.
