Organization and functioning of public transport system – the example of Wałbrzych

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the following article is to examine the organization and functioning of public transport in Wałbrzych through the system approach. The decision of declaring bankruptcy of the communal company realizing the statutory tasks in the area of public transport (MPK Sp. z o.o.) was made in September 2011. In connection with this fact the author made an attempt to verify the functioning of the public transport system, from the point of view of organization of municipal transport in Wałbrzych. The most important research problem is an attempt to answer the following question: Does the functioning public transport in Wałbrzych work effectively? That is to ask: Is it an organized and coordinated entity and does it realize the statutory tasks in the area of public transport and hence does it affect the citizens’ standard of living by efficient transport realization? The article does not refer to financial aspects of functioning of the company as well as the company management.
