Summary/Abstract: The author of this text has been studying the relations between Montenegro and Italy at the turn of the 20th century, not only in the field of foreign policy, economic and cultural cooperation, but also in such specific areas such as marriage liaisons between two dynasties: Savoy and Petrović. The result of the study is an interesting historiography contribution of double significance. First, it explains the legal nature of this document, after which the document is presented in its entirety to the scientific and professional public, based on the preserved archived version, in the original language and in translation. The introductory part can acquaint modern researchers and readers with the causes and circumstances which led to and resulted in this contract. Along with estimating the importance of the document (whose nature was not that of an international contract but of a private legal agreement with foreign elements) to further relations between the two countries, the author of the text claims that, regardless of the political aim which occasioned the marriage and the consequences it had on the strengthening of the international reputation of Montenegro, the alliance coincided with emotional affection which existed between the future spouses. Thus the marriage was a “love marriage” regardless of all the accompanying political importance. The publishing of the contract enabled historians and researchers from other areas – lawyers, political scientists, linguists – to gain another perspective of its content and significance by reading it.
