Summary/Abstract: Elif Şafak’s novel, “Mahrem”, is the subject of this study to examine its fantastic background. For this reason, the introduction of this study focuses the pursuit of the journey of our fantastic tradition in the course from Tanzimat to Republic and the importance or reaction given to this tradition. Firstly, the fundamental tracks of “Mahrem” have been determined in the main text. The analysis of these tracks were done at two steps which are people and objects since heroes in novel contribute to fantastic structure of the text with their private lives and reasons for the existence and roles in novel. In the same way, various objects in the fiction come to the fore because of being fantastic elements. For this reason, the analysis of objects has also been given priority for their relationship with the tracks of the novel and fantastic structure. Lastly, the language of “Mahrem” was analyzed and it was stressed that the language is the most important element supporting fantastic structure of the novel. According to the conclusions reached, it has been determined that Şafak did not establish any relationship between fantastic and “escape” aforesaid with fantastic; on the contrary, she tried to reveal a reality. These analyses are the most noticeable feature of this study giving opportunities to do a fantastic tradition research for all Şafak’s novels.
