Summary/Abstract: The contemporary world is being called upon to accept the challenge of globalisation at different levels: at an economic level as well as at an ecological one, at a political level as well as one which may more exactly be referred to as a cultural one. Such challenges represent an ordeal which we cannot avoid if we want to ensure that in the future there will be a development in the roads that our respective civilisations have carved out throughout the centuries. It is for precisely this reason that the awkwardness that goes together with the need to reconsider our values once more must be overcome; we must open up our minds to comparison, on the other hand, as a first step towards opening up and communicating.[...]
