Medical Information as a Tool for Saving Life and Health

Summary/Abstract: This chapter presents an example of Medical Information Support System for storing, processing and providing access to all medical information about a patient (past diseases, prescribed drugs, medical consultations) required for establishing a correct diagnosis and/or carrying out other life- or health-saving medical procedures. The proposed system is planned to employ the capabilities of electronic storage mediums (such as smart cards, PenDrives) and allows storing (archiving) all the information on several servers in the most strategic locations in the country. The access to the data stored on electronic mediums allows easier control over and use of patient’s medical data by entitled entities: physicians, pharmacists and other people employed in health services.
