Medical Internet and Telemedicine

Summary/Abstract: In 2000, during the 5th Conference of Polish Medical Internet in Poznań (the penultimate conference within a series of six – in total – Polish Medical Internet Conferences held in 1995–2001 under the auspices of the Polish Medical Internet Society) I presented a paper entitled “Medical Internet and Telemedicine – the Influence of Modern Communication Methods on the Character of Medicine”, in which I tried to show the outlook for the development of the medical Internet and telemedicine in our country, as compared to the projects run in Western Europe, the USA and Canada. After six years this problem needs a critical review to answer the question in which ways and in which domains new technologies prompted the transformation of the modern medicine and where the development stopped and, except isolated instances, came to a standstill at the stage of ideas and suggestions.
