Summary/Abstract: This paper presents issues concerning the informatization of healthcare organizations in the context of information and knowledge management. The shift towards knowledge-based economy and knowledge society has also been noticeable in the healthcare sector. Starting from presenting the meaning of ICT for economic growth, coherence of society and increased life standard of citizens, we also refer to UE policies referring to ICT. One of the UE initiatives that is of particular importance for the healthcare sector is e-Health, which means using ICT in all types of government activities that influence health of the citizens. Introducing e-Health requires developing ICT solutions and implementing them in healthcare organizations. This paper also discusses the meaning of implementation of ICT technologies for enabling knowledge management in healthcare organizations. We also show challenges of introducing knowledge management.
