Modern Teleconsultation Systems in Medical Diagnostics

Summary/Abstract: This chapter deals with the technical issues of developing and using modern teleconsultation systems in medical diagnostics. The starting point for the discussion is a simple model of the process of establishing medical diagnosis that demonstrates the role of medical consultation as an element enhancing the expert knowledge available in a decision process. The parts of this model are discussed thoroughly in the medical and technical contexts. In the last part of the chapter there is the TeleDICOM system presented – a modern system developed by the authors for supporting remote consultations – and the directions of its further development are outlined.
