Summary/Abstract: We present a new methodology for computer-aided surgery planning and for navigation-aided surgical treatments in the reconstructive craniofacial surgery. The whole preoperative planning process and the intra-operative navigation oriented issues are described and discussed using two surgical cases: the zygomatic bone repositioning after solidification of an untreated dislocated fracture of the orbital zygomatic complex and the navigated orbit reconstruction in a complex maxillofacial surgical treatment of cherubism. We have focused our attention on the new navigation oriented aspects and procedures which facilitate and enhance the traditional treatment techniques. Many illustrations let better understand the complex technical dependencies between the main elements of this approach. The first observations and results demonstrate that the described methodology brings strong added value to the surgical practice by allowing more precise planning and performing of the surgical procedure, as well as by reducing intra-operative time.
