Electronic Document Exchange in Health Care Units

Summary/Abstract: The chapter deals with several issues concerning the phenomenon of informatization of health services, paying special attention to electronic document exchange systems. The problems (and their solutions) connected with the purchase and implementation of the aforementioned systems are covered. Additionally, the key issues of the legal requirements that must be satisfied in order to enable accomplishing tasks connected with the implementation of electronic document exchange are raised. The chapter also presents a model description of the basic functionality of a system created on the basis of the analysis of the solutions available on the Polish market. The advantages of and difficulties with electronic document exchange are also mentioned.
