Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes and describes the globalization processes in relation with the ethnocultural identity issues. In the beginning we make a discussion of the concept of globalization in the light of the modernist and postmodernist theories and the transformations (into the ethnic, political, economic, financial, communications dimensions) and effects (homogenization, hybridization, indigenization) it brings. We continue with the results of an analysis of the social perceptions (interview data) of the people from Sibiu, regarding the statute of the traditional Romanian ethnocultural elements (seen identity indicators) in the context of the global society. We identified that a perception of a homogenized life style prevails, an increased number people talking about an erosion of the ethno cultural elements; the causes of this erosion are connected, directly or indirectly, to globalization (migration, urbanization, technological advancement, etc)
