Summary/Abstract: The objective of the study is to name and analyze political, social and economic causes of successful economic development in Ireland and ponder about an applicability of the Irish experience in Lithuania nowadays. The case is worth of exerting academic efforts as once upon a time the ugly duckling proved to have a potential to turn into the Celtic Tiger - one of the most economically advanced and competitive countries worldwide. Ireland managed to reject theoretical prejudices of I. Wallerstein and M. Weber about the condemnation to failure of Catholic and peripheral countries. The Irish story might be pabulum for Lithuania resembling Ireland to a great extent from geographical, historical, economic, cultural, religious and even psychological points of view. The investigation bears an inductive nature and consists of four parts, following the developments chronologically. Firstly, the analysis sheds some light on key social and economic developments till 1987 and singles out first variables behind the Irish story of success. Secondly, post-1987 social, political and economic arrangements come to the focus. After the conclusions, the final chapter comes up with considerations about the potential of the applicability of the Irish experience in Lithuania.
