Summary/Abstract: The author of the article analyses the attitude of the Polish Exile towards the connection between the USSR and the pre-revolutionary Russia. Numerous analogies were found between the tsar and soviet regime (despotism, captivity of the society, expansionism). The influence of Russian traditions on the shape of the soviet state were stressed. The soviet politics was perceived as a continuation of Russian imperialism. The USSR was considered a new form of old Russia.
