Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to present the development of awarding electoral rights to young people. Active electoral right was granted usually at the age of 21 until to the half of 20th century. It was reduced to 18 only in seventies. Simultaneously active electoral right was granted to persons under 18 in some communist countries. Such process exists in some democratic countries in our times, too. Active electoral right was granted to sixteen-year-old in Austria some years ago. Public debate on political rights of teenagers has place in many countries, among others in the USA and Great Britain. Nonetheless electoral rights of teenagers are still not norm but exception.
