Summary/Abstract: This article offers a theoretical and critical evaluation of dominant approaches to the practical application of spirituality and religion in the field of social work. In this sense the author suggests a synergy and complementary utilization of both intellectual and spiritual resources. Empirical data show that application of, in this case Islamic ritual ( salah, fasting), can be useful in curing addiction to drugs or alcohol, thus indicating that the spirituality is an essential factor in successful rehabilitation and re-socialisation of an individual. Success of such therapy in great deal depends upon understanding and solving the moral identity of a person.
