Summary/Abstract: The article represents a commented survey of Estonian literary studies published in 2007. It is pointed out that the year yielded substantial theoretical articles, particularly on literary theory, the essence and perspectives of literary history and literary criticism, as well as on the nature of Estonian culture in more general terms (Estonian culture and colonialism, the role of the Other in the definition of Estonian culture etc). Many different theoretical approaches were used in practical micro-level studies. Among these, the most prevalent was a positivist, factual approach, differing from the earlier Estonian positivism by a more minute micro-analysis and some new factors introduced. The circle of analysed authors is wide. One of the focuses lies on the breakthrough of Estonian literature and culture in the early 20th century, in particular the Young Estonian movement and A. H. Tammsaare, which, partly, was due to the commemoration of related anniversaries. In broader terms, the focus lies on revolutionary periods in Estonian literature and culture. Collections of studies were published on Viivi Luik and the novel Tõde ja õigus („Truth and justice”) by A. H. Tammsaare.
