Students Leaving Higher School Reasons Which are Related to the Process of Studies Planning

Summary/Abstract: The article treats of the reasons why students leave higher school and which are related to the process of studies planning. The goal of article to unravel students leaving higher school reasons which are related to the process of studies planning. 504 students of college and 649 students of university as well as 100 lecturers (from three universities) participated in the research. The research was done in university of Klaipeda, university of Siauliai, Vilnius pedagogical university, college of Vilnius and college of Utena. The research was supported by Ministry of Education and Science. It was accomplished by the group of Vilnius pedagogical university (M. Barkauskaite, M. Gaigaliene, V. Rimkeviciene, E. Martisauskiene, V. Gudzinskiene, L. Statauskiene, A. Guoba). A special questionnaire created on the ground of previous researches was used in the research. Students leaving higher school reasons can be related with several groups of factors: process of studies planning, learning problems, peculiarities of individuality and health, social-economical peculiarities and so on. The article treats of the students' and lecturers' attitude towards students leaving higher school reasons which are related to the process of studies planning: study program; studies quality; evaluation system; low competitive admission mark; study motivation; conflicts with lecturers and course mates; competition between students; immoderate study strain. It emerged that the main students leaving higher school reasons which are related to the process of studies planning are as follows: immoderate study strain; happy-go-lucky choosen study program; the lack of studies motivation; uninteresting study program; conflicts with lecturers. Immoderate study strain, happy-go-lucky choosen study program and uninteresting study program mostly are stressed by the first course students, and least - by the third course students. The lack of studies motivation mostly is stressed by the students of upper courses. Low competitive admission mark mostly is stressed by the second course students. Whereas lecturers mostly stress happy-go-lucky choosen study program - it is the main reason why the students of basic courses leave a higher school.
